Modern Terminals Limited

Activity

Modern Terminals was established in 1969 and we are committed to operational excellence and to providing  our customers with the best service possible ever since we opened Hong Kong's first purpose-built container terminal in September 1972. Apart from offering World Class terminal services in Hong Kong, we have also expanded into Mainland China in recent years. Modern Terminals holds the majority shares in and operates DaChan Bay Terminals in the Pearl River Delta (PRD).

It also holds equity stakes in Shekou Container Terminals and Chiwan Container Terminal in PRD.

For the past 45 years, Modern Terminals has been providing ocean carriers, manufacturers and end users with fast, efficient, sophisticated and customer-focused container-handling and logistics services.  We tailor these flexibly, so that they match each customer’s specific requirements.  Our goal is to help customers deliver their consignments effortlessly, from a location that’s convenient for them to wherever their consignments are needed around the world.

Modern Terminals provides the physical gateway for the container and cargo flows that drive the development of China’s economy and the prosperity and well-being of its people.   We are relentlessly driven by our uncompromising standards and recognized for our world-class people, container terminals and services.   We are cherished by customers and stakeholders as their preferred partner.

We are totally committed to driving the sustainable development of the container terminal industry.  Environmental considerations have been paramount in our corporate decision-making processes throughout our history.  Our dedication to the “green terminal” concept has always been a major consideration whenever we have designed, built and equipped our new and existing terminals.

In Hong Kong, we have invested to convert all our rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) into electricity powered RTGs (E-RTGs). E-RTGs emit zero CO2 during their operations in the terminals and their indirect CO2 emissions are 60% lower than those of diesel-powered RTGs.  Moreover, DaChan Bay Terminals was the first container terminal in the world to deploy only E-RTGs.

Modern Terminals’ business units in Hong Kong and Mainland China have obtained ISO14001 certification for their environmental management systems.  In 2010, we became the first container terminal operator in the territory honoured by Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency’s (HKQAA) CSR Advocate Mark in recognition of our overall corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance.
