Opera up close and personal
Opera up close and personal
An unforgettable evening of opera arranged by Danish Chamber of Commerce at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Royal Danish Opera Singers, Pernille Bruun (Soprano), Mariann Amdisen (Mezzo Soprano), Boerge Nielsen (Baryton), Thomas Poulsen-Kragh (Tenor) and Royal Danish Opera pianist, Bo Lundby-Jaeger, performed an amazing program of French and Italian opera highlights expertly backed up by the Hong Kong City Choir on Saturday June 19, 2010.
The audience was instantly captured when the entire ensample opened the concert with an impressive version of Brindisi from La Traviata. Throughout the concert the singers, in turn, impressed the audience with world famous arias, duets, trios and quartets and together with
the Hong Kong City Choir managed to amaze the audience over and over again. The standing ovation at the finale and the numerous curtain calls were undeniably well deserved and sincere indications of how extraordinary the entire performance had been.
Danish Chamber of Commerce would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors (Jebsen, Sir Wayne Leung, Royal Danish Consulate General in Hong Kong, Dacapo and Wine Pro Consultants) for their generous support.

Letter to Royal Danish Consulate Hong Kong

Dear Members,

Response from the Danish Foreign Ministry

We have today received a response to our letter to the Danish Foreign Ministry dated 20th April and delivered through the Royal Danish Consulate Hong Kong.  The letter is featured on this website www.dcc.hk.

The response is in the form of an undated word document draft addressed to the Denmark Hong Kong Trade Association in Denmark and not to DCC.

The letter fails to address the issue we raised regarding the importance of Hong Kong as a Special Administrative Region.  It would be unfortunate if the Danish Foreign Ministry does not recognize the Hong Kong Government or the "One Country Two Systems Policy" which Hong Kong and China plan to celebrate on 1st July the 13th birthday of its inception and the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR.  The unsigned letter is drafted for the signature of the Danish Foreign Minister, Lene Espersen.

It is unfortunate but it appears that the Danish Foreign Ministry does not recognize DCC in Hong Kong. However, the Hong Kong Government does recognize your Chamber and DCC has arranged an invitation for Mr Brian Mikkelsen, Minister for Economic and Business Affairs to attend the official celebrations of the Hong Kong SAR's 13th birthday on 1st July.  Minister Mikkelsen will meet DCC delegates on the same day.

Kind regards

Jens-Erik Olsen

Chairman

Danish Dynamite 2010

The Danes in Hong Kong finished as number 8 at the Dragon Boat Race at Stanley Beach. Thanks to all who came to fight for Denmark and to watch the race. It was a great day and we were lucky with the weather. We also had a meetup to watch the Denmark-Holland soccer match at Amici Bar, where we had a great evening.

We published 2 galleries for the events here:
